Thanks to Tom Macadam

Today we thanked Tom Macadam for more than twenty years of service as Session Clerk to Fintry Kirk, the position from which he retired at the end of last year. Twenty years is quite an achievement!

There had been a collection for Tom with many people in the church and the village donating, which I was delighted to present him with at the end of the service. Tom’s wife Dorothy was also presented with flowers to thank her for her support of Tom in his role as Session Clerk over all these years.

Whilst wishing Tom a happy retirement, we look forward to his continuing support of the Kirk Session and wider life of Fintry Kirk.

We are very glad that Meg Duckworth has taken on the role of Session Clerk, and that she will be supported by Rosie Walters as Deputy Session Clerk.

Church of Scotland Advent Calendar

The Church of Scotland has a new online Advent Calendar that I’d encourage you to take a look at. There are key messages about Advent and Christmas, and it includes people you may know – such as Rev. Valerie Allen, who took several of our services earlier this year.

A wonderful Harvest Lunch

Fintry Kirk celebrated Harvest today, giving thanks for all the good gifts we have been blessed with. After a celebration in the church, beautifully decorated with gifts from the congregation for the Simon Community in Glasgow, we were treated to a marvellous lunch at the Sports Club. As always, the ingredients used were generously donated by local farmers and producers, and cooked to perfection by Brenda and her team at the Sports Club.

It was a great time of fellowship with many people in Fintry village.

Welcome to the new Fintry Kirk website

It’s very exciting to start a new website.

Our website was maintained for many years by Trevor Walters, and all of us in Fintry Kirk are tremendously grateful to him for doing an excellent job on this. Now he wants to pass that on.

I am hoping that this new website will continue to spread the word of what we are doing in Fintry and beyond, as we share our journey of faith in this beautiful part of Scotland. The website should contain details of events and services, and be a useful resource for life in and around Fintry Kirk. It is not yet complete, but please do take a look around, and if you find any problems with it, please let us know.

I am also starting new Facebook and Twitter accounts. I must admit this is somewhat new territory for me, but I hope to use these to communicate information about my ministry in Fintry and Balfron that will be of interest to members, friends, and visitors.
